SANDRO invites the French artist and designer Louis Barthélemy to express his universe in a capsule collection with Evelyne Chetrite, Founder and Artistic Director of SANDRO.
Louis Barthélemy is a designer, illustrator and textile designer who divides his time between Paris, Egypt and Morocco. He demonstrates a deep commitment to the preservation and revival of traditional craftsmanship. A love of Morocco and an intimate attachment to its craftsmanship were the meeting points with Evelyne Chetrite.
Evelyne grew up in Morocco, in Rabat. From her childhood she remembers her grandfather, a tailor and shirtmaker, and the abundance of colour in her daily life.
This shared desire to celebrate Morocco and its know-how is at the heart of the creative partnership between SANDRO and Louis Barthélemy. Evelyne wanted the collection to have a fresh modern spirit. Louis imagined bright graphics on scenes of Moroccan life.
He was particularly inspired by Mohamed Ben Ali R'bati, considered Morocco's first modern painter. These graphics came to life on fluid materials, silk for shirts, T-shirts and scarves, or polyester for shorts and bloomers. Two Kasbah bags, one of them entirely hand-embroidered, also reflect this dreamlike universe.
In addition, a bucket bag in natural straw and leather reminds us of SANDRO and Louis Barthélemy's attachment to craftsmanship. This bag is entirely made by the DOUM FOR WOMEN cooperative. This cooperative is part of an objective to empower women in a rural community in Morocco and to preserve an ancestral know-how: basket weaving. By maintaining traditions in a modern way and sharing their craftsmanship with the world, these women gain autonomy and economic independence.
